Emerald Weapon (Boss)

Emerald Weapon (Boss)

FF7 Emerald Weapon (Crashed Gelnika Location)

After the Weapons are released from the Planet and you have the Submarine, you will see a monster swimming around the ocean between Junon and Costa del Sol (Sometimes seen floating above the Gelnika).

This is Emerald Weapon, an optional boss fight added to the North American and European releases of the game.

As this boss is underwater, there is a time limit of 20 minutes to defeat it unless you get and equip the Underwater Materia.

There are a few things to prepare before facing this boss, below is a list of what I recommend.

Preparation:

  • Underwater Materia - Trade the Guide Book with the Kalm Traveller - Removes the 20 Minute time limit.
  • Lucky 7's - See the Tips and Hints section for details. You can start the battle in this mode and deal damage right out of the gate.
  • Knights of the Round Materia - Obtained after getting a Gold Chocobo, See the Materia Caves section for location.
  • Final Attack Materia - Beat the Battle Square's Special Battle, See Gold Saucer - Battle Square section for details.
  • Phoenix Materia - Obtained after winning the first battle at Fort Condor or at Bone Village if you lose the battle.
  • Fury Status Effect - Use a Hyper to inflict Fury on your party. This increases the rate in which your LIMIT bar fills but reduces hit rate by 30%.

Materia Set-up:

  • Link [Phoenix] Materia with [Final Attack] so that if the character is KO'd, Phoenix is used and revives all party members to full HP (Provided enough MP is available to summon); set this up on Cloud.
  • Level up [Knights of the Round] to be able to use it multiple times and link it with [MP Absorb] to gain MP back from using it as it uses a lot to summon.
  • A useful set up is to have [Restore + All] | [Barrier + All] | [Time + All] spread between characters so you can use them all in one turn.
  • Enemy Skill Materia with Big Guard, Dragon Force, Magic Hammer & White Wind to help with Defence, Healing and MP stealing.
  • Other Materia that is useful: [Bahamut ZERO], [Neo Bahamut], [W-Summon], [W-Item], [W-Magic], [Lightning] & [Ramuh]
  • Do Not Use : [Typhoon], [Kujata], [Leviathan], [Shiva], [Ice], [Earth] & [Titan]

Status Effect:

  • Have your party start with Fury status; this will increase the amount the LIMIT bar gains for attacks, allowing you to use your LIMIT Breaks more often.

Additional Tip:

Emerald Weapon has an attack called Aire Tam Storm which deals damaged based on how many Materia you have equipped. Damage is equal to 1,111HP x Number of Materia, with 9 Materia attached to a character, this attack will deal 9,999 damage. It also removes Barrier, Death Force, Haste, MBarrier, Reflect, Regen, Resist, Shield, Slow and Stop on all opponents.

Tips:

Aire Tam Storm deals damage based on how many Materia are equipped to the party and deals 1111HP per Materia.

Emerald Shoot deals massive damage to a single character (6000- 8000) and can cancel Barrier, MBarrier, Shield, Death Force & Resist. (Only used when eyes aren't present.)

Emerald Beam hits whole party for 60%+ current hP and removes Regen. (Only used when eyes are present.)

Revenge Stamp is a counter-attack that hits whole party for huge damage and cancels Haste. (Only used when 1 eye present.)

Boss absorbs Water & Ice and is immune to Earth but is weak to Lightning.

Although Gravity damage is halved, it is still worth using Demi; used with Quadra Magic you can inflict 39996 damage early on even with the weakest spell.

Strategy:

I used the following strategy to defeat Emerald Weapon:

Cloud with Lucky 7's and Omnislash from the start; while Cloud is using Lucky 7's, his ATB bar will fill, allowing you to use Omnislash immediately after for approximately 60% of Emerald Weapon's HP.

Have your other party members use Haste and Wall/Big Guard/Shield to help with attack speed and defence.

Use Knights of the Round, Bahamut Zero and other strong Summons to whittle it down even more. (KOR will cause Emerald Weapon to use Aire Tam Storm which will most likely kill your party. Make sure Cloud has at least 430MP before doing KOR so you can use Phoenix if everyone is KO'd)

Just by maintaining HP, MP and using high-level spells, you can bring Emerald Weapon down.

Cloud was level 91 at the start of this battle at the time guide was made. Other party members were Tifa and Yuffie with their final LIMIT Breaks and Ultimate weapons equipped.
