There are 110 unique Triple Triad cards; they are split into 10 levels with 11 cards per level.
- Levels 1 - 5 are monster cards; these cards can be obtained in a number of ways and there is no limit to how many can exist (with the exception of the PuPu card).
- Levels 6 and 7 are Boss cards; these cards are rare drops from normal monsters and can be won in Triple Triad matches; there is no limit to these cards but are rarer.
- Levels 8 and 9 are Guardian Force cards; these cards are obtained either by defeating the corresponding GF or from certain Triple Triad players. You can only carry 1 of each of these cards but it is possible to obtain more, but these do not get added to your inventory.
- Level 10 are Player cards; these represent the main characters of Final Fantasy VIII and most are held by someone with a connection to the depicted character such as Zell's card being held by his Mother.
The cards in the player's inventory can be viewed from the Menu in the Cards section. If you have owned a card but have refined or lost it, the card will show as greyed out until you gain one again. If you collect all the cards, the Cards option in the menu will have a star next to it.
If you have held a rare card, you can view its location from the Card menu; if you have lost a card, you can see where the card holder is to find them and re-claim it.
