Final Fantasy VII - Dating Guide

FF7 Gold Saucer - Date

During Disc 1, you will go to the Gold Saucer twice; during the second visit, an event will happen where a member of your party will come to your room and invite you out to some parts of the Gold Saucer.

Depending on choices made during specific events in the main game, the character that comes to see you will change.

Below are the mechanics and the choices that make changes. You can be visited by: Aeris, Tifa, Yuffie or Barret.

Each character starts the game with a value, each option modifies the values of one or more characters and the character with the highest value by the time of the "Date" will be the one who comes to Cloud's room.

There is an Achievement for the PS4 called "Best Bromance" which is for having Barret visit Cloud.
Character Starting Value
Aeris 50
Tifa 30
Yuffie 10
Barret 0

Meeting Yuffie

You can find Yuffie after escaping from Midgar; upon meeting the "Mystery Ninja", you can talk to her and by responding to her correctly, you can recruit her to your party. Each correct answer also adds 2 points to her total for the dating mechanic and getting an answer wrong has no negative impact on the points.

You can use this encounter to "farm" points with Yuffie by answering her questions correctly up until the last one; this adds 8 points to her date score and you can encounter her as many times as you want until you get all of the questions correct. She does, however, steal 700 Gil from you each time you get a question wrong so it will get expensive early on.

The highest amount of affection points the player can get like this is +30, so the player can do it four times to benefit, but at the cost of 2,100 Gil.

Fort Condor

When Cloud first talks to the old guy:
  • "I guess so" (+5 Barret, +3 Aeris, +3 Tifa, +2 Yuffie)
  • "Not interested" (-5 Barret, -3 Aeris, -3 Tifa, -1 Yuffie)
When the old guy tells Cloud about his problem:
  • "All right" (+5 Barret, +3 Aeris, +3 Tifa, +2 Yuffie)
  • "Not interested" (-5 Barret, -3 Aeris, -3 Tifa, -1 Yuffie)

Cargo Ship

When Yuffie asks for Tranquilizers:
  • "Here, use this" (+4 Yuffie)
  • "Nope" (-2 Yuffie)
Aeris asks to go on an airship:
  • "I'll take you someday" (+2 Aeris)
  • "I dunno..." (-2 Aeris)
Tifa asks about the war:
  • "Yeah..." (+2 Tifa)
  • "I don't know" (-2 Tifa)

Gold Saucer

The first character chosen to accompany Cloud through the amusement park gets a +3 boost.
The party members not chosen will give a -2 decrease.
Picking Red XIII does nothing.

Corel Prison

The character chosen to accompany Cloud and Barret to fight Dyne gets a boost.
  • Aeris gets a +10
  • Tifa gets a +3
  • Yuffie gets a +2
Picking Red XIII or Cait Sith does nothing.

Gongaga

After meeting with Zack's parents, Cloud can talk to either Tifa or Aeris (if they are in the party).
  • Ignoring them will cost -3 points each.
  • Talking to Tifa will boost +1, it does not matter what Cloud responds.
  • Talking to Aeris gives a choice.
    • "Poor guy" (+1 Aeris)
    • "(...jealous...envious...)" (+2 Aeris)

Cosmo Canyon

The party will split up when they first enter the area. If Barret is in the party during this time, Cloud can go to the room behind the Weapon Shop and talk to him about forming AVALANCHE:
  • "Go on" (+3 Barret)
  • "Not really" (No change)
The second answer:
  • "And then" (+3 Barret)
  • "Yeah, whatever..." (No change)
After giving the first answer, responding with "Yeah, whatever..." will reset the dialogue when the room is exited and re-entered; this allows you to get the affection points as many times as you like.*

* This bug exists in all versions of the game, including the PlayStation 4 release. However, the Bromance trophy for dating Barret only triggers if Barret's affection value is within certain bounds. Using the glitch can thus make his affection value exceed the cap and thus lock the player out of the trophy even if they get Barret as the date.

Wutai

Going through the entire Wutai side-quest boosts Yuffie's points +10.

The date and beyond

After this point, no further alterations will be made to the date value and when you return to the Gold Saucer, whoever has the highest value will knock on Cloud's door and invite him out into the park for the night.

After this event, another part that is affected by the values is the conversation under the Highwind between Tifa and Cloud after Cloud tells everyone to go off and find their reason to fight. As they are waiting, Tifa and Cloud will talk and the conversation and implications will change based on Tifa's score.

  • If Tifa scored 50 or above, Tifa will ask if the party had heard their conversation, then walk into a corner and collapse in embarrassment.
  • If Tifa scored 49 or less, Tifa will ask the party if they heard their conversation and then walk into a corner, pretending not to care.
